TV advert

This is a TV advertisement for Subway

When analysing the advertising for Subway, I started off looking at a television advert.

The narrative of the advert is about Keith.
Keith always had things chosen for him, until he discovered subway, and he chose how his sandwich was made.

The settings were in the nursery where he was born, his house where he grew up, the workplace where he worked and the subway where he got his his sandwich.

The characters were Keith (main character), the nurses in the nursery, Keith's mom who cut his hair, Keith's boss who told him what to do the subway cashier and some background characters.

The conflict was that Keith had no choice in anything. the  resolution was that Keith is given the choice of what goes on his sandwich.

I then looked at what camera angles were used in the advert and why they chose those shots. The advert started with a wide shot to establish the scene, they had multiple close shots showing faces of the characters, and wider shots to show more surroundings, then a close up of a Sub.

I also noticed how the mis-en-scene was used to further help to sell the product. The  mis-en-scene (What colours, sets and props are used? Why?) included lots of the colours green and yellow, the props used were baby Keith, the bowl and scissors used to cut Keith's hair, Keith's box of things and the shredder in the work scene and the subway in the shop scene.

After that I checked the audio. The sounds and music used in the advert were the narrator narrating the narration and some music running in the background.

The advertising techniques used in the advert is independence, as you decide what goes on your sandwich.

Finally, the target audience for this product 13-30 year old's of any gender, especially those who enjoy sandwiches.
